Mrs Mad's humble opinion
9/10 Very good. I am pleased with this.
What's it about?
A teenage girl begins to question her life and what she is doing with it!
What happens?
Cat is a typical teenage girl, she does very well at school, disagrees with her parents and isn't sure where her future lies. Then one day in an English lesson she feels it all slipping away and starts to leave her old life behind. She meets new friends and lies to her parents about her work, but more importantly , she starts drinking.
Is it easy to read?
Definitely a teenage book, easily read suitable for anyone.
Anything else?
I found this a compelling read. It is written like a letter, each chapter addressed to another person involved in Cat's life. She is desperately trying to make sense out of the past few months and is pouring her heart out. It was fascinating like a jigsaw puzzle coming together in front of me. I remember some of the feelings she goes through and the question of oneself and the others around you. It can be a confusing, stressful time and Sherry Ashworth conveys those things in this story. She doesn't give perfect, happy endings, life isn't like that and we are left to reflect upon Cat's future as much as she would be doing herself. Brilliant!
