Mrs Mad's humble opinion
9/10 Very good. I am pleased with this.
What's it about?
Take one very clever, talking cat, a band of very clever, talking rats and a boy who does what he is told. Wickedly funny adventures are bound to happen!
What happens?
Maurice is a cat, but a cat who can talk and think and he wants to make some money. He has teemed up with a group of rats who can also talk and reason, so much so that they are beginning to question how they are making their money. Then there is the dumb looking kid who plays the pipe and does what they tell him to do. Apart from the rats questioning their chosen profession everything has been going well, until now! They are in the town of Bad Blintz about to carry out their usual trick of boy and cat piping the rats out of the town, but this is not like the other towns they have tricked. There is something going on here already. And something rather nasty lurking in the cellars!
Is it easy to read?
Excellent for anyone who likes fantasy or wants to find out what Terry Pratchett is like.
Anything else?
I haven't read any Discworld books so I didn't know what to expect. I loved it, especially the humour and witty observations, 'talk to the paw 'cause the face ain't listening!', what a gem!! The plot was twisted and kept a fast pace, with little surprises of one kind or another all over the place. Extremely well written I look forward to the next one he writes.
Other books by Terry Pratchett include Johnny and the Dead, Mort, Sourcery, The Wee Free Men.
