Mrs Mad's humble opinion
7/10 This is quite a good piece of work.
What's it about?
A tale based on the true story of a cat and baby who survived the Elizabeth's Day Flood in 1421 in South Holland.
What happens?
Katje is a happy cat who lives with her master in the windmill. Then one day he brings home a wife and suddenly Katje is not so welcome anywhere in the house and when a little baby arrives Katje moves out into the windmill. A terrible storm arises and Katje leaps into the baby's cradle before it is swept away by the flood waters. The cat is very brave and keeps the cradle from tuning over in the deep water and finally both cat and baby are rescued.
Is it easy to read?
A lovely book to share with a young child, the pictures are really beautiful.
Anything else?
A simple but lovely story with Nicola Bayley's wonderful pictures, make this a great story for sharing.
Who says so?
This review by Mrs Mad.
The publisher reckons...
Based on a true story over 500 years old, this is the story of Katje, the windmill cat, who lives with the miller. When he gets married Katje is driven from the house, and moves into the windmill. When a storm breaks the dyke, Katje performs an extraordinary feat of courage, and is welcomed home.
