Karen King's humble opinion
9/10 Very good. I am pleased with this.
What's it about?
A highly illustrated reference book about life in Victorian times.
What happens?
This book deals the Victorian times starting with the reign of Queen Victoria and going onto the industry, the lives of the working classes, Victorian childhood, art and architecture, the Empire and finally the legacy left to us by the Victorians. Although a reference book there is nothing daunting or boring about the highly-illustrated pages with bite-size chunks of information written in language that children can understand.
Is it easy to read?
Its target audience is children over 8.
Anything else?
The contents and layout make it an interesting reference book that children will consult time and time again. Another winner by Dorling Kindersley, who well deserve their reputation for presenting information in an innovative and appealing way.
Who says so?
This review by Karen King.
The publisher reckons...
This is a resource for young readers who want to learn all about the Victorian way of life, from clothing, to eating habits, to medicine. Discover facts such as the number of hours servants were expected to work per day and how much they were paid over the year.
