Mrs Mad's humble opinion
8/10 You are working hard. Well done.
What's it about?
Ever heard of a pop band called "The Cure", a really wonderful band from the 80's? Well one of their songs, "Charlotte Sometimes", was named after this book. Rather a good recommendation!
What happens?
Charlotte finds her new boarding school just as confusing and difficult as she had expected. Being shy doesn't help matters any. This is why it takes her some time to realise that something very odd is happening. Somehow she keeps slipping back to1919 and becomes a girl called Clare. No wonder she has problems remembering names and faces! Being herself only occasionally causes terrible problems, but what can Charlotte do about it?
Is it easy to read?
Suitable for all, I even know of several parents who read it when their kids had put it down! A very good and mature reading, 8 or 9 year old would also enjoy this story. Boys have also read and enjoyed it.
Anything else?
A classic ghost story, well worth a read. Farmer slips between the two worlds with ease and carries the reader along with the confused Charlotte. As she tries to sort out her awful problem before it is too late and she becomes trapped in the wrong world or something even more terrible happens.
Who says so?
This review by Mrs Mad.
The publisher reckons...
After Charlotte's first night at boarding school, the view from the window has changed and the girl in the next bed is not the girl who was there last night. She is a stranger who calls Charlotte "Clare" and says she's her sister. Somehow, Charlotte has slipped back to 1919 and is someone else.
