Mrs Mad's humble opinion
8/10 You are working hard. Well done.
What happens?
Will should be feeling very happy, everything is going well, but he has an overwhelming sense of foreboding. What could be wrong? As Christmas approaches and everyone else is celebrating he is caught up in a powerful adventure, battling against age old powers of evil that are attempting to destroy the world as we know it.
Is it easy to read?
This needs concentration and imagination, but is well worth the effort. A wonderful series of books.
Anything else?
Followed by Silver on the Tree; The Grey King; Greenwitch; Over Sea, Under Stone. This is a truly wonderful sequence of books. Susan Cooper creates a world of mystery and magic that runs along close to our own. She is an accomplished story teller and weaves magic around her readers. We are drawn into the world of Will and struggle with him to fight the dark which is rising all around.
Other books by Susan Cooper include King of Shadows, Little Monster Did It!, Over Sea, Under Stone, The Baby Who Wouldn't go to Bed, The Bear under the Stairs.
